The Yellow Room

Just a few more weeks and my two besties will be here! I'm still tackling some not so pretty spots in my home but managed to make some progress over the weekend. The biggest eyesore in my house was definitely my yellow spare bedroom. This weekend my husband and I managed to rip up carpet, paint and move in some much needed furniture. Here are some of the 'BEFORE"........

These pictures do not show the horror of neon yellow paint combined with popcorn ceiling and stained, cheap beige carpet. For over a year this room has been in various stages of 'clean' but has never been used for anything more than a dumping ground.

Please take note of the classy ceiling fan....without globe.

Here's a view of the opposite side of the room with some random paint color choices.

Ripped up carpet to reveal  a Jackson Pollock style floor. Scrubbed and scraped carpet glue from the floor for over an hour.Fun.

Forgot to take a picture but when we removed the carpet in the closet we found old laminate and had to remove that too. Sadly, even with industrial strength adhesive remover the glue would not come off. It was so sticky that it pulled my flip flops off my feet. So, naturally we ........

....covered it up with NEW sticky floor tiles! Some battles I know when to quit.

Here's a random view of my backyard through the window.

Although I would have loved a fabulous chandelier, it's just not practical for the way we live. I have to have air blowing though my house! I have ceiling fans in every room for air circulation and to keep down on the electric bill. (Also to help hold off on buying a new HVAC system as mine is original to the house and is almost 24yrs old. With it being 106+ degrees lately, it needs all the help it can get!)

Even though we just painted, we will probably repaint as I have already changed my mind about the color.

Bedding is Simply Shabby Chic by Rachel Ashwell and was on clearance at Target store.

My bamboo blinds were bought on the cheap at Walmart. Dress form bought on ebay.

I bought my vintage headboard, nightstands and dresser at a local used furniture store for $300. It's not perfect by any means but I loved the color. It also had a matching double armoire  but it was HUGE! and would not fit in my house, let alone this room. I'm still sad I had to break up the original one owner set.

The headboard is cool because it has a lip and on the underside a light can be placed. I've found similar light fixtures  but none are the correct style for my bed. I'm still hopeful though!

Woah! Really need to clean the mirror!

Laying on the bed..view to the left.....

........and to the right. Any suggestions  for the big ass blank wall? Nice shot of my tan legs.....

Although it's no where near finished it can actually be used as a guest room so I'm thrilled. I have a gorgeous orange and navy Persian rug that I plan on using in lieu of carpet but it has yet to have a professional bath so its sitting in the garage and not coming anywhere near this clean room! Still up in the air as to decor but scored these beautiful butterflies at an estate sale and am leaning toward hanging them somewhere in here.

Morpho butterflies are sooo beautiful. The wall color with probably be going a little more brown orange because it is too orange when the sun is shining. I like the orange and blue color scheme and found some pretties on 1stdibs for some inspiration since almost everything on there I can't afford.

Maybe some art to represent my Puerto Rican heritage?

Home Sweet Home

Soooooooo excited! My two bestest friends and their lovely little girls will be traveling to Texas very soon  to see me! My house usually looks like a bomb went off inside it but I am working on fixing that. They are some things I know I must get before they arrive, like maybe.....um..... a kitchen table! Maybe with a little luck hitting the thrift stores I can pull off something lovely to greet my two favorite girls. Found these lovely pics to get the creative juices flowing............
